KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Mac (Bernama) -- Pelbagai projek menambah baik

pengangkutan

Rata-rata badan bukan kerajaan (NGO) memuji usaha kerajaan melalui

pengangkutan awam bandar seterusnya gaya hidup rakyat.

GTP-PENGANGKUTAN AWAM (REAKSI) 2 KUALA LUMPUR

penambahbaikan pengangkutan awam siap.

pembinaan Lebuhraya Pantai Barat.

awam," katanya.

Sementara itu Presiden Persatuan Pemandu Bas Semenanjung Malaysia, Sa''adan

Man menyambut baik penubuhan Akademi Pemandu bas yang ditubuhkan bagi projek

pemboleh Mempertingkatkan Pengangkutan Awam Bandar (UPT).

GTP-PENGANGKUTAN AWAM (REKASI) 4 (AKHIR) KUALA LUMPUR

mengurangkan masalah disiplin pemandu.

katanya.

Sa''adan turut menyarankan agar kebajikan pemandu bas dijaga serta

dibela dengan menstrukturkan semula pembayaran gaji demi memantapkan sektor

pengangkutan awam.

Podolski double gets Arsenal back into top four

Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski struck twice in a laboured 3-1 win over West Ham United on Tuesday as the FA Cup finalists maintained their push for a Champions League place by moving back into the top four. Germany international Podolski equalised before the break and capped a fine display with the third goal, after Olivier Giroud had put Arsenal in front 10 minutes into the second half, as Arsene Wenger's side worked hard to claim the three points. The result takes Arsenal up a spot to fourth on 67 points with four games left, one place and one point ahead of Everton who have a game in hand against mid-table Crystal Palace on Wednesday as the Champions League qualification race hots up.

Thousands gathered at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on Tuesday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 of their fans died during an FA Cup semi-final, one of the darkest days in the history of English football. The supporters lost their lives in a crush at the Leppings Lane End of Sheffield Wednesday's Hillsborough ground at the start of the match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989. Over 20,000 people attended the memorial service, where the number 96 was spelled out on the pitch using scarves donated by fans from around the world following an appeal by Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool's manager at the time of the disaster. The names of the 96 victims were read aloud, the youngest being 10-year-old Jon-Paul Gilhooley, the cousin of current Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, who attended the ceremony along with his team mates.

Shipping alliance opposes Beckham's Miami arena plan

By Zachary Fagenson MIAMI (Reuters) - An alliance of shipping interests and a billionaire car dealer launched a newspaper ad on Monday protesting retired English football star David Beckham's plans for a football arena at the port of Miami, saying it threatens the city's plans to capitalize on the expansion of the Panama Canal. "We cannot jeopardize well-paying jobs, like crane operators, longshore workers, and mechanics, for low-paying stadium jobs, such as concession sales," the Miami Seaport Alliance said in a full-page ad that ran in the Miami Herald and its sister Spanish-language paper, El Nuevo Herald. The group, led by John Fox, who has retired as Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's head of governmental affairs, includes two chapters of the International Longshoremen's Association and two stevedore companies, whose workers load and unload ships, along with car dealer Norman Braman, the one-time owner of Philadelphia Eagles. Beckham last month unveiled detailed plans for a 25,000-seat waterfront stadium on the island port with sweeping views of downtown Miami.
