Sacked Moyes 'proud' of Man Utd tenure

David Moyes declared on Wednesday that he was "proud" to have managed Manchester United, but said that he understood the "frustration" that had led to his dismissal. Moyes, 50, was sacked by United on Tuesday after a dismal 10-month tenure in which the reigning champions slumped to seventh place in the Premier League, denying them a place in next season's Champions League. "During this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to …

Dari kiri: Timbalan Presiden Persekutuan Wushu Malaysia, Lim Eng Chan, Ketua Pengarah MSN, Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong, Pengarah Akademi Sukan UPM, Prof. Madya Dr.S.

Chelsea may field weakened team v Liverpool - Mourinho

Chelsea could field a weakened team in their top of the table Premier League game at Liverpool on Sunday, said manager Jose Mourinho after Tuesday's 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid. With his second-placed side five points adrift of leaders Liverpool with only three games left, Mourinho is clearly prioritising next week's Champions League semi-final second leg at home to Atletico over their slim Premier League title hopes. The Portuguese, however, said he would speak to the hierarchy at Chelsea before making a final decision on the team he would field at Anfield on Sunday.

    Mourinho's cautious Chelsea frustrate Atletico

By Iain Rogers MADRID (Reuters) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho returned to Spain with an ultra-cautious approach as his team earned a 0-0 draw with surprise Champions League semi-finalists Atletico Madrid in a first leg lacking in excitement on Tuesday. The stalemate at the Vicente Calderon, which Atletico coach Diego Simeone believes gives Chelsea a slight advantage in next week's return at Stamford Bridge, came at a cost for the 2012 winners, however. Goalkeeper Petr Cech was ruled out for the season after hurting his elbow, captain John Terry limped off with an ankle injury and midfielders Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel earned bookings that mean they are suspended for the second leg.

Analysis - United must move fast with vital window looming

By Ed Osmond LONDON (Reuters) - Manchester United must move quickly to appoint a new manager and give him maximum time to operate in what will be a critical transfer window for the club. A season of abject failure under David Moyes brought a swift end to the former Everton manager's reign at Old Trafford and United will have to act equally decisively to install the right man to try to revive their fortunes. Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal is the favourite and he has the necessary experience and record of success. Carlo Ancelotti of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund's Juergen Klopp have also been linked with the job, although the German appeared to rule himself out of contention on Tuesday.

Man United act to halt slide as power shifts back to Liverpool

By Keith Weir LONDON (Reuters) - The balance of power in English football has shifted from one famous U.S.-owned club to another, with Liverpool on course to win the league for the first time in 24 years while rivals Manchester United are in disarray and seeking a new manager. The Glazer family who own United showed their ruthless streak on Tuesday when they sacked manager David Moyes after less than one season in the job. Moyes inherited a Premier League-winning team from Alex Ferguson last year but a dismal campaign means United will miss out on a place in the UEFA Champions League - Europe's top club competition - next season for the first time since 1995. Failing to qualify will cost United upwards of 30 million pounds next year but the Glazers will have been prompted to act by fears of a long barren streak of the kind from which Liverpool are emerging.

Former Argentine ace Aimar axed by Malaysian team

(Reuters) - Former Argentine international playmaker Pablo Aimar has been dumped by his frustrated Malaysian club JDT after the 34-year-old's injury problems sidelined him for most of the campaign. Aimar, who signed a two-year deal with Johor Darul Takzim in September after leaving Portuguese side Benfica, was reportedly the highest paid player in the Malaysian top flight and club president Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim said he hadn't proved value for money. "As it is now, Pablo Aimar has not fully recovered from his (thigh) injury and cannot contribute 100 percent in the games played," the Crown Prince of Johor wrote in a post on the club's Facebook page. "After playing two matches for JDT, we had to sit him out of six matches due to the injuries succumbed.
