Nadal crashes in Monte Carlo, Federer faces Djokovic

Eight-time champion Rafael Nadal slumped to a shock Monte Carlo Masters quarter-final defeat to compatriot David Ferrer on Friday while Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic struggled into a semi-final showdown. Ferrer claimed a famous 7-6 (7/1), 6-4 win to hand the top seed only his third loss in the principality just a day after Nadal had won his 300th career claycourt match and 50th at the Monte Carlo Country Club. Meanwhile Federer, bidding to win the title for the first time, squandered his first 15 break points before finally coming good on a 16th on his way to a 2-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-1 defeat of French ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. MH370 steward's daughter 'blessed' with Liverpool kit

The daughter of the chief steward aboard the missing Malaysian jet has thanked Liverpool fans for giving her a signed jersey in honour of her football-mad father, in a story that has captured the nation's hearts. Maira Elizabeth Nari -- who has become a social media phenomenon in Malaysia for her poignant posts refusing to give up hope of finding her father alive -- said three Malaysian Liverpool fans "went through a few obstacles" to get the shirt signed by the club's players and manager after a recent game at Anfield. "Feeling so blessed! I've no clue how to thank all of you," the 17-year-old wrote as she posted a picture of the shirt over the weekend, which has been shared on Twitter nearly 3,500 times. The teenager said she would frame the red jersey, which bears the name of her father Andrew Nari, who was working as chief steward on flight MH370 when it vanished on March 8 en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

I'd have more recognition if I wasn't African, says Toure

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, one of six nominees for the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) player of the year award, says he would have more global recognition if he was not from Africa. The talismanic Ivory Coast international believes he and Africans like compatriot Didier Drogba (Galatasaray) and Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o (Chelsea) would be more appreciated around the world but for their heritage. City team mate Samir Nasri suggested last month that it would be a different story for Toure if he had been born in Europe or South America. "To be honest proper recognition has only come from the fans.
